Parent Meeting Recap

Jennifer Crisera

Thank you to all parents and caregivers who joined us on this lovely evening to talk all things swim team!  Here's a recap of our discussion:

- Discussed who does what: Coaches talk techniques, run all practices, create all line-ups, help with any issues a swimmer may have, and oversee swimmers at meets, among other coach-y things.  Unless it is a true emergency, please email the coaches so that they can keep their eyes on the swimmers during practice.  (It's a safety thing.)  Parent reps are Patty and Jen, and coordinate things like volunteers at meets, team events, push out general information about meets, and serve as a go-between as needed with the club and the coaches.

- Discussed the "mock meet", which starts at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 22nd.  Please do come to this mock meet for a number of reasons:  Your swimmer will set their base times for individual events (which helps the coaches with line-ups), your swimmer will get used to how line-ups look and how meets work, and our volunteers get a chance to help out before a real thing!  You should sign up (commit or decline) just like any other meet.  See below.

- Discussed regular season meets - we will have 3 home meets and 4 away meets.  Please sign up 48 hours in advance of any meet (either commit OR decline), and put in any notes you would like the coaches to see.  We will send out a video of how to sign up for meets, if you need help!

- For home meets, we need a LOT of volunteers.  Some are the day of the meet, some are the day before or after, pick what works for you!  See the "Job Signup" button on each event.  We will send out a video of how to sign up to volunteer, if you can't quite figure it out.

- Even though all meets start at 6 PM, kids need to be there earlier for warm-ups.  Usually warm-ups are at 4:30 PM for home meets, and 5:15 PM for away meets.

- For the 8 and under crowd, we assign "buddies" - usually with a senior (15-18 y.o.) swimmer.  Big buddies will help the little buddies get to their events, remind them of what they are swimming, and just generally be a great resource and support system.  If you have a kiddo who is 9+ but new to the team, please contact us!  We can find a big buddy or a peer to help.

- Other team events this summer:  Pancakes and pictures (usually in mid-July), and Swim Team Banquet (usually the day after the All City Meet).

- Discussed team gear.  Please see links on our website.  Team suits are plain black and there are "fit kits" in the office if needed.  Swim caps also in the office.  Other things like sweatshirts, sweatpants, t-shirts, etc. are totally optional but very fun!

- Discussed postseason meets.  We will send out more information later this summer, but generally:  There are B-Champs (a chance to qualify for prelims if your swimmer hasn't already, or just wants to swim in a postseason meet); Prelims (Girls/Boys); Divisional Championships (Northern and Southern, we are the latter); and the All-City Meet.

- The All City Meet is at Lakeridge this year!  Yay and yikes.  We will need lots of volunteers so please help if you can!  Tuesday, August 6th.

Finally and most importantly, welcome to Lakeridge!  We are so glad to have you.
